Hydroelectric Facilities Generate $4 Million
The Rancho Peñasquitos Pressure Control and Hydroelectric Facility and Lake Hodges Hydroelectric and Pump Station Facility generated more than $4 million in revenue during the fiscal year. The Water Authority sells power from the 4.5-megawatt Rancho Peñasquitos facility on the wholesale energy market, while renewable energy credits associated with the facility are sold to a third party. Revenues from the energy and credits are estimated to top $700,000 annually. At Lake Hodges, the 40-megawatt pumped storage facility has been available for service nearly 98 percent of the time under staff operation, exceeding the original target of 97 percent.
