“We salute the residents of San Diego County for their strong and enduring commitment to a safe and reliable water supply as shown by their support for the state water bond – Proposition 1 – on the Nov. 4 ballot.  A Water Authority poll earlier this year showed that nearly 80 percent of respondents supported the Water Authority’s strategy to diversify the region’s water supply, and we saw that commitment to similar solutions statewide clearly on election night.

Water Authority Recommends $1.5 Billion Budget for Fiscal Years 2016 and 2017

The San Diego County Water Authority’s general manager on Thursday recommended a $1.5 billion budget for fiscal years 2016 and 2017, up 2 percent from the current two-year budget due largely to higher costs for the purchase and treatment of water.

A new poll commissioned by the San Diego County Water Authority shows widespread awareness of water supply challenges, strong backing of water conservation measures and mandatory restrictions, and continuing support for developing additional local water supplies. In another key finding, a majority of respondents now favor adding highly treated recycled water to the region’s drinking water supply.

Nation’s Largest Seawater Desalination Plant Enhances Water Supply Reliability for San Diego County

Operations are under way at the nation’s largest and most technologically advanced seawater desalination plant, which was dedicated today by more than 600 elected officials, community leaders and project partners. After successfully completing construction, the Claude “Bud” Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant has already produced more than 1.5 billion gallons of locally controlled water for San Diego County, helping to minimize the region’s vulnerability to the statewide drought.

Water Authority Approves Desal Plant Planning Agreement with Marine Corps

The San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the two agencies today, which provides a framework for on-site preliminary studies that will determine the feasibility of building a major regional seawater desalination facility at Camp Pendleton.

Water Authority Board Approves Landmark Seawater Desalination Project

The San Diego County Water Authority’s Board of Directors on Thursday voted to approve a landmark agreement to purchase up to 56,000 acre-feet of water annually from what will be the nation’s largest seawater desalination plant in Carlsbad, Calif.  The plant is expected to start producing up to 50 million gallons a day in 2016.

Draft EIRs issued for Mission Trails and Seawater Desalination projects

The San Diego County Water Authority's ongoing effort to diversify its water supply portfolio and ensure reliability took another step forward with the release of two draft environmental impact reports for public comment. The individual reports cover the Water Authority's Mission Trails Project in Mission Trails Regional Park east of Tierrasanta and the Regional Seawater Desalination Project at the Encina Power Station in Carlsbad. Each EIR will be available for public comment for 45 days.äóÂäóÂ

Carlsbad Desalination Project Negotiations, Due Diligence Proceeding on Schedule

San Diego County Water Authority staff reported today they are making significant progress toward finalizing a draft agreement for purchasing water from the Carlsbad Desalination Project.  Contingent on the successful completion of negotiations with Poseidon Resources, the project’s private developer, staff told the Water Authority’s Board of Directors they expect to bring the draft water purchase agreement to the board for consideration this summer.

County residents support local water supply development over increasing imported water

The results of a recent public opinion survey conducted for the San Diego County Water Authority, shows that many San Diego County residents support the development of local water resources over increasing imported water supplies. Support for local water supplies remains high, even if it is more expensive than increasing imported water supplies.
