Variable Rainfall in a Mediterranean Climate
Climatic conditions within the Water Authority’s service area are Mediterranean along the coast, with mild temperatures year-round. Average annual rainfall is about 10 inches on the coast and more than 33 inches in the mountains. Rainfall follows a seasonal distribution with a majority of the region’s precipitation occurring between December and March.
The table below groups annual rainfall by location. You can filter the table to show just one location at a time and/or only specific years. You can also sort data within each location by year, normal rainfall in inches or recorded rainfall in either inches or the percent it was of normal.
Note: Normal rainfall is adjusted periodically to reflect previous years. Water years begin October 1 and end September 30. Rainfall amounts are in inches.
