Water Authority Offers Free Commercial Property Irrigation Checkups Through June 1

Monday, March 14 marks the start of Fix a Leak Week, and managers and owners of commercial or large residential properties can get help identifying leaks or other ways to improve their water efficiency through a free irrigation checkup program offered by the San Diego County Water Authority and Bureau of Reclamation.

The free irrigation checkups are available now through June 1 to owners and managers of multifamily, commercial, industrial or public properties, or residential properties of one irrigated acre or more.

Water Authority Applauds Regional Water Savings as MWD Ends Supply Allocations

Hogan, chair of the San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors, is in response to the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California Board action today to end water shortage allocations to its 26 member agencies, including the Water Authority, effective April 13, 2011:

Water Authority Ends Shortage Allocations, Lifts Call for Mandatory Use Restrictions

Significant improvements in this year’s weather and water storage led the San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors today to end mandatory urban and agricultural water supply cutbacks and to lift the agency’s regionwide call for mandatory water use restrictions.

The board also reinforced the need for the region to continue to use water wisely and called upon the state of California to finalize a financially viable plan to solve significant problems plaguing the Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay-Delta, the hub of California’s State Water Project system.

National Fix a Leak Week Delivers Discounted Leak-Stopping Services

As part of the regional effort to reduce water waste, the San Diego County Water Authority and its member agencies are again partnering with the local chapter of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association during national Fix a Leak Week, March 14-20, to make fixing water leaks less costly for residents and businesses.

Low-Water-Use Plants Discounted at Spring Plant Fairs

As the days get longer, the San Diego County Water Authority and 11 member agencies once again are partnering with several local The Home Depot stores to offer discounts on water-efficient plants ideal for springtime planting. The San Diego County Garden Friendly Plant Fairs run from Feb. 20 to May 21 at Home Depot stores from Chula Vista to Oceanside.

New State Water-Use Regulation Offers Regional Benefits from Seawater Desalination

The San Diego County Water Authority is working with state regulators to certify the Claude “Bud” Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant as a drought-resilient local supply source that will reduce state-mandated water-use targets across the region.
