Water Authority Develops Road Map to a Secure Water Future

The San Diego County Water Authority’s Board of Directors on Thursday received updates about two potential capital projects to meet the region’s long-term need for water through 2035 – a seawater desalination plant at Camp Pendleton and a large-scale conveyance system to deliver water from the Colorado River. Both options – and several others – will be considered as the Water Authority crafts its long-range planning document, the 2013 Regional Water Facilities Optimization and Master Plan.

Water Authority Ends Shortage Allocations, Lifts Call for Mandatory Use Restrictions

Significant improvements in this year’s weather and water storage led the San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors today to end mandatory urban and agricultural water supply cutbacks and to lift the agency’s regionwide call for mandatory water use restrictions.

The board also reinforced the need for the region to continue to use water wisely and called upon the state of California to finalize a financially viable plan to solve significant problems plaguing the Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay-Delta, the hub of California’s State Water Project system.

Board Adopts Long-Term Plans for Water Facilities and Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The San Diego County Water Authority’s Board of Directors on Thursday unanimously adopted an updated water facilities master plan and a Climate Action Plan, along with an environmental analysis of the two long-range strategies. The package will serve as a roadmap through 2035 for future capital projects and responding to climate change as it relates to activities within the agency.

Jan. 9 Public Hearing on Long-Term Water Facilities and Climate Action Plans

The San Diego County Water Authority on Thursday will hold a public hearing on three related draft documents that together will provide strategic direction through 2035 for building capital projects and responding to climate change as it relates to agency activities.

The hearing is at 6 p.m. at the Water Authority’s headquarters, 4677 Overland Ave. in Kearny Mesa. It will cover the 2013 Regional Water Facilities Optimization and Master Plan Update, the Climate Action Plan and the associated environmental document.

Water Authority Begins Update of Region’s Long-Term Water Management Strategy

The San Diego County Water Authority is launching the 2015 update of its Urban Water Management Plan, which includes a forecast of water demands and a detailed evaluation of the supplies necessary to meet those demands over at least two decades for both normal and dry conditions.

Judge Rejects Environmental Group’s Legal Challenge to Water Authority Plans

San Diego Superior Court Judge Gregory W. Pollack has rejected all objections raised by San Diego Coastkeeper to the San Diego County Water Authority’s 2014 adoption of its Regional Water Facilities Optimization and Master Plan Update and Climate Action Plan, finding the Water Authority followed all applicable laws and procedures when the agency adopted them last year.
