Supply Diversification, Water Efficiency Critical to Region’s Future Water Reliability In Updated Long-Term Water Management Plan

The San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors today adopted its 2010 Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP).  The plan, a key forecast of regional water demands over the next 25 years and the supply resources needed to meet those demands, calls for the Water Authority and its 24 member agencies to continue to implement and pursue supply diversification projects in response to growing demand and new water supply uncertainties.

Water Authority calls for increased water conservation efforts throughout the county

The San Diego County Water Authority has issued a request for increased conservation efforts during hot summer weather. Just as we try to conserve electricity to avoid blackouts, residents and businesses should conserve water during hot summer days to avoid water shortages.

Higher temperatures mean demand for treated water will also increase. Cooperative conservation efforts by businesses and residents in San Diego County will help manage the availability of treated water supplies during hot weather.

Water Authority conservation program celebrates 15 years

How does a semi-arid region find the water to keep up with the thirst of 3 million residents and businesses? It learns how to share. By volunteering to use less water, San Diego county residents are making sure there’s some available for a new neighbor, or a new neighborhood.

Today the San Diego County Water Authority celebrated 15 years of water conservation efforts and 433,700 acre feet of water saved. And it gave much of the credit to the high-efficiency toilets installed through its toilet voucher program.

Toilet discounts up to $165 for water-saving toilets won’t be around much longer

Homeowners who want to reduce their water use and expense can turn to high-efficiency toilets and a voucher discount worth up to $165 off the price of qualifying models. But they need to act soon. Available for 15 years in San Diego County, the discount incentive opportunity for single-family property owners ends March 31, 2007.

Water Authority Announces ’20-Gallon Challenge’ for Voluntary Water Conservation

The San Diego County Water Authority today urged residents around the region to reduce their water use by 20 gallons a day per person so the region can store more water for 2008. This call is in response to historic dry conditions affecting all of the region’s water supply sources and uncertainty over the volume of future deliveries from the State Water Project.

Excessive heat taxes treatment plants: Water Authority issues urgent call for decreased water use

The San Diego County Water Authority is issuing an urgent call for homeowners and businesses throughout San Diego County to curtail all unnecessary water use between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. through the end of this week. Local and regional water treatment plants are now running at full capacity because extremely high temperatures around the region have spiked demand for treated water.
