Water Authority Board Expands Conservation Efforts

The San Diego County Water Authority board of directors today approved an expanded water conservation plan that enhances current programs and adds innovative new programs to the effort. The plan, which places special emphasis on outdoor landscape conservation programs, will result in an additional water savings of 47,091 acre-feet over the next five-to10 years.

The San Diego County Water Authority Reminds Residents and Businesses To Turn Sprinklers Off

The San Diego County Water Authority urges residents and businesses to shut off their irrigation systems and keep them off for at least the next week.

Two more rainstorms are forecast to hit the region starting tonight through Sunday. The ground is still saturated in most areas following record rainfall on Monday.

If all the sprinklers in the region were shut off for just a week, as much as 2,000 acre-feet of water could be conserved, or enough to meet the annual needs of 4,000 average households.

Turn back the clocks and turn down the sprinkler systems

Shorter daylight hours and cooler weather mean lawns and gardens throughout the San Diego region need less water. As San Diegans prepare to set their clocks back Oct. 31, the San Diego County Water Authority and local water districts request that customers practice “Shorter Days, Shorter Watering Times.” Homeowners, gardeners and landscape contractors are encouraged to conserve water and save money on water bills by adjusting residential and commercial irrigation systems.

Water Authority Board Approves Conservation Awareness Campaign

The San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors approved the development and implementation of a Conservation Awareness Information Campaign at the regularly scheduled meeting today. The campaign will be designed to provide information on water conservation practices, while addressing the public perception that San Diego’s water supply may be threatened due to the lack of local rainfall.

State could adopt new low-water-use efficiency standards for residential clothes washers

The California Assembly Committee on Natural Resources yesterday passed Assembly Bill 1561, which will require new water efficiency standards on all residential clothes washers. The bill, authored by Assembly member Dave Kelley (R-Idyllwild) and sponsored by the San Diego County Water Authority, would establish water standards that benefit both the state and consumers.

Water authority presents xeriscape garden awards at San Diego County Fair

In an effort to acknowledge the benefits and beauty of xeriscape gardening in our semi-arid climate, the San Diego County Water Authority presented awards for winning designs at the San Diego County Fair. On June 14, a total of $1,500 in awards were given to six exhibits that best displayed xeriscape gardening and succulent gardening.äóÂäóÂ

‘San Diego Grown Photo Contest’ Highlights County’s Agricultural Bounty

To celebrate how safe and reliable water supplies fuel the region’s local farms and food production, the San Diego County Water Authority is hosting a social media photo contest during Water Awareness Month in May. The “San Diego Grown Photo Contest” on Instagram and Twitter highlights the significance of agriculture to the regional economy. Residents, businesses reminded to save water

The San Diego County Water Authority is reminding residents and businesses countywide to conserve water during the hot summer months.

"We've found that as temperatures rise, so does water use," said James Turner, chairman of the San Diego County Water Authority. "We just want to remind residents and businesses to keep up the water-wise habits that have become a way of life in San Diego County."

Grand Jury Finds Water Authority Made ‘Substantial Progress’ Diversifying Supplies

The San Diego County Water Authority “has made substantial progress in diversifying  water supply sources” that bolster the region’s economy and quality of life, the San Diego County Grand Jury said in a report released Wednesday. It also concluded that the Water Authority should “continue to pursue a vigorous policy to lessen dependence on imported water by continued conservation, reuse and reclamation, additional emergency storage projects and new desalination projects.”

@MWDFACTS Twitter Feed Launched to Provide Immediate Access to Information about MWD’s Proposed Rate Increases and Decisions

The San Diego County Water Authority today launched a Twitter feed, @MWDFacts, to help members of the public get important updates on issues and decisions by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.  The Water Authority has also launched another Twitter feed, @sdcwa, which provides updates on a variety of news and events related to the Water Authority and regional water issues.
