The San Diego County Water Authority board of directors today authorized the release of a "Notice of Preparation" for the Programmatic Environmental Impact Report on the draft Water Facilities Master Plan. The PEIR will examine the issues and options related to water facilities and supplies needed to serve San Diego County through 2030.

The largest agriculture-to-urban water transfer in history received final approval Tuesday afternoon following votes of the Imperial Irrigation District board of directors ratifying a complex set of agreements involving the transfer. Meanwhile, the water agencies' efforts to sign a broader plan to reduce California's draw on the Colorado River ahead of a midnight Dec. 31, 2002, deadline were unsuccessful.

The San Diego County Water Authority board of directors today approved an expanded water conservation plan that enhances current programs and adds innovative new programs to the effort. The plan, which places special emphasis on outdoor landscape conservation programs, will result in an additional water savings of 47,091 acre-feet over the next five-to10 years.

By a unanimous vote, the San Diego County Water Authority board of directors Thursday elected its new chairman, vice chairman and secretary.
Bernie Rhinerson, of San Diego was elected chairman. James Bond, of Encinitas was elected vice chairman and George Loveland, of San Diego, was elected secretary. The new officers begin two-year terms on Jan. 1, 2003.
