Water Authority Issues Statement on Governor Brown Declaring an End to the Drought Emergency

“Record-setting precipitation this winter means that the drought is indeed over, and the Water Authority applauds the governor’s decision today to formally end the drought emergency for most of California. It’s critical for water agencies and regulators to maintain credibility with the public by acknowledging the dramatic improvement in water supplies, which is why the Water Authority’s Board of Directors passed a resolution declaring the end of the drought conditions for the county in January. “It’s also important to remember that San Diego County ratepayers spent more than $3.5 billion over the past three decades to improve the region’s drought resilience – for instance, with new water storage capacity and new […]

That order also advanced a single-tunnel project to move water through the Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay-Delta, instead of the two-tunnel project favored by former Governor Jerry Brown. The Water Authority Board made its backing of the single-tunnel proposal contingent on a project financing plan that treats San Diego County ratepayers fairly through the proper allocation of project costs by the Metropolitan […]

Twin Oaks Valley Water Treatment Plant Cited for Error

A malfunction at the Twin Oaks Valley Water Treatment Plant resulted in a citation from the state Division of Drinking Water, though the water in regional pipelines continued to be safe for all uses due to additional treatment processes that are in place. The malfunction lasted for about 15 hours on April 21-22, when ozone dosage levels in the plant fell below state-mandated levels because a valve failed to fully open. Ozone is a common disinfectant used in water treatment systems to kill bacteria and other organisms. To be effective, water must be in contact with the proper dosage of […]

In conjunction with the action, the Water Authority released a study that shows ongoing ratepayer overcharges will only worsen unless the Los Angeles-based agency makes major changes to rein […]
