Water Authority provides 23 students with $1,000 scholarships

The San Diego County Water Authority board of directors formally recognized high school seniors who each received $1,000 scholarships to be applied toward their college level education. The scholarships are one component of the Creating Paths to Partnerships Program, an annual outreach event sponsored by the San Diego County Water Authority and its member agencies for the local contracting community.

Water Authority conservation program celebrates 15 years

How does a semi-arid region find the water to keep up with the thirst of 3 million residents and businesses? It learns how to share. By volunteering to use less water, San Diego county residents are making sure there’s some available for a new neighbor, or a new neighborhood.

Today the San Diego County Water Authority celebrated 15 years of water conservation efforts and 433,700 acre feet of water saved. And it gave much of the credit to the high-efficiency toilets installed through its toilet voucher program.

Water Authority moves forward on seawater desalination

The San Diego County Water Authority board of directors today took two more steps forward in the development of the Water Authority Seawater Desalination Project at the Encina Power Plant in Carlsbad that could supply eight percent of the county's water by 2008.

The board authorized a $475,000 contract with Irvine-based RBF Consulting to provide environmental support services for the proposed Water Authority Seawater Desalination Project. Under the contract, RBF will prepare an environmental impact report for the project.

MWD Approves Higher Than Necessary Rate Increases for 2013-2014

Disregarding public concern over rapidly rising water rates, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California's board of directors today approved raising its “average” water rates by 5 percent in 2013 and another 5 percent in 2014.  No one pays “average” rates at MWD.  The rates MWD’s board approved today increase its Tier 1 Treated water rate by 6.7 percent in 2013 and another 5.1 percent in 2014.

Toilet discounts up to $165 for water-saving toilets won’t be around much longer

Homeowners who want to reduce their water use and expense can turn to high-efficiency toilets and a voucher discount worth up to $165 off the price of qualifying models. But they need to act soon. Available for 15 years in San Diego County, the discount incentive opportunity for single-family property owners ends March 31, 2007.

Metropolitan Water District ‘Water Supplies Report’ found inadequate

The San Diego County Water Authority board of directors, responding to a presentation on the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California's "Report on Metropolitan's Water Supplies," voiced concerns over the report's accuracy and the validity of its projected supplies. MWD's report provides information regarding its projected water demands and the supplies that are available to meet those demands in the future.
