An unprecedented reduction in reservoir releases on the Colorado River announced Friday by the Bureau of Reclamation won’t cut water supplies to agencies in San Diego County or the rest of the Southwest during the 2014 “water year,” but the move does underscore the importance of continued conservation and water-supply diversification across the region.

Free WaterSmart Landscape Makeover Workshop Series Begins in March
Starting in March, the San Diego County Water Authority is sponsoring a new series of free classes around the region to help residents turn conventional yards into WaterSmart landscaping showcases.
The WaterSmart Landscape Makeover Workshop Series, made possible in part by grants from the Hans & Margaret Doe Charitable Trust and the state Department of Water Resources, will be held at six locations countywide.

Water Authority Recommends Adoption of Voluntary Conservation Measures on Feb. 13
The San Diego County Water Authority’s Board of Directors is accelerating its schedule to address unprecedented drought conditions in California. The Board will consider urging increased voluntary water conservation at a special meeting on Feb. 13.
The Water Authority staff is recommending a stepped-up drought response by activating the agency’s Water Shortage and Drought Response Plan to help preserve stored water reserves in Southern California and assist in managing the potential long-term impacts of the state’s water crisis.
