The San Diego County Water Authority has received a $1 million incentive from the California Public Utilities Commission to build and deploy intelligent energy storage that will save ratepayers money and stretch the energy output potential of solar panels already installed at the Water Authority’s Twin Oaks Valley Water Treatment Plant. Instagrammers from around San Diego County have more reason to “like” water today as the San Diego County Water Authority announced the winners in its first-ever photo contest hosted on the social media platform. New Clean Energy Storage Project to Save Water Authority $100,000 Yearly

The San Diego County Water Authority will save approximately $100,000 per year with commercial-scale batteries installed at the agency’s Twin Oaks Valley Water Treatment Plant near San Marcos. The energy storage system is designed to reduce operational costs at the facility by storing low-cost energy for use during high-demand periods when energy prices increase. Fall Fairs Deliver Discounts on Low-Water-Use Plants

The San Diego County Water Authority and 10 member agencies have teamed with The Home Depot again this fall to offer significant savings on water-efficient plants at San Diego County Garden Friendly Plant Fairs from Chula Vista to Oceanside. In addition, the Water Authority and member agencies are holding more than a dozen free California Friendly Landscape Training courses this fall to promote WaterSmart landscaping.

San Diego Region Attracts More Than $15 Million for Water Projects

The San Diego region has been awarded more than $15 million in fast-tracked funding by the state Department of Water Resources for a variety of projects aimed at increasing local water supplies and decreasing demands. Together, the projects will produce or save more than 12,000 acre-feet of water annually, enough to serve nearly 25,000 typical four-person homes.

Free copies of a popular guidebook for environmentally friendly landscape upgrades are available to residents countywide starting today, thanks to a second printing of the “San Diego Sustainable Landscape Guidelines” by the San Diego County Water Authority. Homeowners who commit to meeting rigorous sustainable landscaping design standards may also qualify for a financial incentive to help offset project costs.
