Judge Rules Prop. 26 does not Apply to 2010 Lawsuit Challenging MWD’s Rates

The San Francisco Superior Court has affirmed the San Diego County Water Authority’s key legal arguments despite ruling Friday that Proposition 26 does not apply to the Water Authority’s 2010 lawsuit over rates charged by the Los Angeles-based Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

Water Authority earns credit rating upgrade from Standard & Poor’s

The bond rating for the San Diego County Water Authority was upgraded on May 9 by Standard & Poor's, a rating agency, from its current level of "AA-(minus)" to "AA." Two other rating agencies, Moody's and Fitch affirmed their credit ratings on May 10 regarding Water Revenue Certificates of Participation at levels of "Aa3" and "AA-," respectively. The Moody's rating was also accompanied by a "Stable Outlook" position for the Authority.

Court Reaffirms Prior Order Granting Discovery in Water Authority’s Rate Case Against Metropolitan Water District of Southern California

San Francisco Superior Court Judge Richard A. Kramer today reaffirmed his January 6 order granting discovery in the San Diego County Water Authority's lawsuit challenging 2011 and 2012 water rates adopted by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. In reaffirming his prior ruling, Judge Kramer rebuffed attempts by MWD to assert limits on discovery before the process has even commenced.

Court Grants Discovery in Water Authority’s Rate Case Against MWD

San Francisco Superior Court Judge Richard A. Kramer today granted motions to allow discovery in the San Diego County Water Authority’s case against the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, motions which MWD had vigorously opposed.  The judge also denied without prejudice MWD’s motion to bifurcate the case, saying he will consider how the case should be tried after the parties complete discovery.

Water Authority approves $436 million budget for Fiscal Year 2002

The board of directors of the San Diego County Water Authority today approved a $436 million budget for fiscal year 2002 that allows the Water Authority to continue providing a safe, reliable water supply to the region. The Water Authority's fiscal year begins July 1. The budget consists of five major elements: water purchases, $222.6 million; Capital Improvement Program Annual Appropriation, $131.3 million; debt service, $54 million; the operating budget, $26.2 million; and equipment replacement, $1.9 million.

Landmark Trial Over MWD’s Rates Concludes in Superior Court

Lawyers for the San Diego County Water Authority on Monday wrapped up their case against the Los Angeles-based Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, concluding a five-day trial with more than $2 billion at stake for county residents. Judge Curtis E. A. Karnow requested post-trial briefs from both parties by Jan. 17, with a hearing on those briefs scheduled for Jan. 23. Following the Jan. 23 hearing, Judge Karnow will take the matter under submission before issuing his decision.
