The San Diego County Water Authority is urging Governor Schwarzenegger to work with the Legislature to sign a bill that would allocate money from existing, voter-approved bonds for water supply related projects in 2009. The bill is also important as a means to provide a needed and immediate economic stimulus to our state’s economy. SBXX-1 will accomplish this goal.

The bill, SBXX-1, will provide help to endangered species, such as the Delta Smelt, which in turn, could alleviate restrictions on pumping from the Delta and possibly avert a near term water supply crisis. The Bay-Delta region, the beating heart of the state’s water supply, delivers water to 23 million people and 4 million acres of farmland. The Delta is collapsing as both an ecosystem and as a water-delivery system for drinking water.

You can help get this important legislation passed. We urge you to contact your state legislators and the Governor to work together to pass SBXX-1.
