The San Diego County Water Authority board of directors today formally recognized high school seniors who each received $1,000 scholarships to be applied toward their college level education. The scholarships are one component of the Creating Paths to Partnerships Program, which is an annual outreach event sponsored by the San Diego County Water Authority and its member agencies for the local contracting community.
Representatives on the scholarship committee included RBF Consulting, Able Patrol and Guard, San Diego Contracting Opportunities Center, HMC Architecture Planning Interior Design and the County Water Authority.
Eligible students are seniors who plan to attend a local trade school, college or university. Applicants were asked to write a 300-word essay describing how their intended career or occupation would be of general benefit to society. They were also asked to submit a biographical essay describing their need for financial assistance.
A total of 16 scholarship recipients were selected. They represent eight high schools: Carlsbad, Garfield, Kearny, Palomar, Patrick Henry, Point Loma, San Diego and Scripps Ranch.
The scholarships are managed by the College Opportunity Foundation, Inc., an organization that specializes in managing financial assistance to deserving students. Scholarship funds are placed in designated accounts at the institution of the student’s choice where they can be drawn upon for books, tuition and other school supplies.
The San Diego County Water Authority is a public agency serving the San Diego region as a wholesale supplier of water from Northern California and the Colorado River. The Water Authority works through its 23 member agencies to provide a safe, reliable water supply to almost three million county residents.
