Pipeline 5 Relining
Project Background
Pipeline 5 Relining Project in North San Diego County Complete
The Pipeline 5 Relining Project involved rehabilitating approximately 2.3 miles of the pipeline in eight separate segments along a 9.5-mile stretch traversing the Fallbrook and Bonsall communities in North San Diego County. The project extended the service life of the pipeline by more than 75 years.
The construction crews conducted most of the work underground, inside the pipe. They accessed the pipe by excavating just below the pipeline and removing a short section of the pipeline for entry. These access sites are referred to as portals and are approximately 25 by 60 foot wide excavated pits.
Completion of this project brings the Water Authority to 47 miles of successfully rehabilitated pipe, out of the existing 82.5 miles of pre-stressed concrete cylinder pipe, which makes up the regional delivery system.
