With ransomware and other cyber attacks creating unprecedented havoc for public, private and nonprofit organizations at the local and national level, the Water Authority’s Information Systems and Information Security teams collaborated on vital security-related maintenance, timely patches and other best practices to keep the Water Authority’s business network protected. Staff, as part of pandemic response, also added a new multi-factor authentication system to better protect remote access to computers and servers. Information Security also had a thorough third-party assessment of the business network’s security measures performed to help identify and correct potential vulnerabilities, and staff added several new scanning and threat detection devices and enhanced cloud backup capabilities to further improve system resilience.
