Education Program Responds to Pandemic with Virtual Offerings

By summer 2020, the Water Authority adapted most of its educational offerings to online or virtual options to help students continue learning about the region’s most important resource - water - whether they were at home or in a classroom. The Water Authority also maintained its commitment to supporting regional STEM education efforts, such as judging the virtual 2021 Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair in March 2021.

In addition to providing virtual options for long-running and highly popular programs like school assemblies, the Water Authority began development an interactive digital water education workbook to align with state science standards and be available to all teachers and students across the region. The workbook development process focused on topics such as the water cycle, San Diego County water supplies, bodies of water, and water-use efficiency.

“Schools relied heavily on virtual learning since March 2020, and the Water Authority also adapted our education programs to virtual options to ensure that students can continue learning about important topics like water. We realized there was a need for a comprehensive and interactive water education resource that students can access wherever they are learning.”
