The San Diego County Water Authority and select locations of The Home Depot are again partnering to offer discounts on water-efficient plants ideal for springtime planting through a series of San Diego County Garden Friendly Plant Fairs. Consumers are invited to take advantage of these deals at seven events across the county from Feb. 25 to April 22.

This is the sixth year the Water Authority and its member agencies have partnered with The Home Depot to host the plant fairs, which also feature industry experts to provide information about water-efficient irrigation and how to select and grow low-water-use plants.

“Rain or shine, our region needs to embrace a WaterSmart lifestyle,” said Water Authority Board Chair Mark Muir. “Our partnership with The Home Depot has proven popular because it helps more residents make the long-lasting changes that make their outdoor water use more efficient.”

The fairs will feature great prices on specific water-wise plants, including varieties such as lavender, bougainvillea, geranium and rosemary (in select stores, while supplies last). Local retail water agency staff will also be available to provide information about water conservation programs and services.

Water Authority member agencies sponsoring the spring plant fairs are Carlsbad Municipal Water District, City of Oceanside, Olivenhain Municipal Water District, Otay Water District, City of San Diego, San Dieguito Water District, Sweetwater Authority and Vallecitos Water District.

“We are committed to teaching our customers how to conserve water and to providing plants that will thrive in local environments,” said Brian Parker, senior merchant of live goods for The Home Depot. “We are happy to partner again with the San Diego County Water Authority to host how-to workshops and provide information to educate people on what plants to choose that are water wise.”

The Water Authority launched its Live WaterSmart campaign in July 2016 to promote the many available opportunities for homeowners and businesses to make the most of every drop.
