The San Diego County Water Authority urges residents and businesses to shut off their irrigation systems and keep them off for at least the next week.
Two more rainstorms are forecast to hit the region starting tonight through Sunday. The ground is still saturated in most areas following record rainfall on Monday.
If all the sprinklers in the region were shut off for just a week, as much as 2,000 acre-feet of water could be conserved, or enough to meet the annual needs of 4,000 average households.
Mandatory watering restrictions are still in effect in many areas of San Diego County, and the region still faces pumping restrictions that limit available water supplies for the foreseeable future.
