RELIANCE ON AFAR
Since the State Water Project supplemented
water supplies from the Colorado River, San
Diego County now relied on i
mported water for
75 to 90 percent of its total supply. This ratio
represents a big shift from the 1920s when
people thought that local
water from the coun-
ty’s own watersheds could meet the needs of
any city that
might ever grow there.
