Mentor Protégé Program

Construction
The Mentor Protégé Program, in cooperation with the Associated General Contractors of San Diego, is a community-based effort involving leaders of major prime and subcontractor organizations, financial and bonding institutions, and several public agencies.  The program is in part, sponsored by the San Diego County Water Authority.  The Mentor Protégé Program is a deliberate effort to overcome barriers that typically inhibit or restrict the success of emerging construction companies and help these enterprises maximize their economic opportunities.  The program is designed to produce a broad base of high quality, competitive and profitable construction companies through incremental improvement.

Construction Application

Selection is conducted through an application/interview process.  The San Diego County Water Authority's Small Contractor Outreach and Opportunities Program (SCOOP) is a member of the Advisory Board responsible for selecting the participants.

Consultants
The San Diego Water Authority Mentor Protégé Program is a means for a Protégé to become a valued business partner, an innovator with a relationship that fosters progress.  The program is designed to motivate and encourage large business prime consultant firms to provide mutually beneficial development assistance to small business.

The purpose of the Mentor Protégé Program is to enhance the capabilities of the protégé; and to improve their ability to successfully compete for SDCWA contracts.  The Program’s objective is to increase the capabilities of local small businesses to participate as prime consultants, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers on SDCWA contracts, other local agency contracts, and commercial contracts.  The Program is intended to establish long term business relationships between small businesses and larger consultant firms.
