San Diego County Water Authority to host workshop on energy issues for water agencies

The San Diego County Water Authority in partnership with SDG&E will host a workshop on energy issues for water wastewater, landscape and agricultural communities and agencies:

When: August 23, 9:00 am - 11:30 am

Where: Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park

Purpose of Workshops – the workshops will target energy saving activities by addressing several subject areas:

  • The relationship between water use and energy demand
  • The importance of shifting water use from peak energy demand periods
  • Strategy sharing for shifting peak demand in 2005 and preparation for 2006
  • How conservation contributes to peak load reduction

Workshop speakers will include:

  • Henry Abarbanel, workshop host and moderator, Metro Wastewater JPA Chairman and co-chair of SANDAG’s Energy Working Group
  • Shahid Chaundhry, California Energy Commission
  • Dave Todd, State Department of Water Resources
  • Eric Larson, San Diego County Farm Bureau
  • Jim Fisher and Water Cooke, city of San Diego
  • Harold Bailey and Gary Canfield, Padre Dam Municipal Water District
  • Jim Tripoli, Chuck Manzuk and Wally McGuire, SDG&E

The Governor's office asked the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) to hold informational workshops in August to benefit water and wastewater agencies. The workshops are designed for water, wastewater and irrigation district managers, operations and maintenance staff, and public outreach professionals. Energy utilities and business customers will also benefit. Workshops will be held Aug. 22 in Los Angeles and Aug. 24 in San Jose.
