Groundwater Report
June 1997
In response to increasing water demands and decreasing reliability of existing imported supplies, the Authority has focused more attention during the last several years on developing additional local water supplies and water storage, as well as developing more reliable imported supplies. The alternatives being implemented or considered by the Authority for improving water supply reliability include: water conservation, water transfers, water reclamation or recycling, and groundwater resource development and management.
To help achieve the Authority water supply goals, assess the potential for groundwater development, and develop programs to assist in groundwater project implementation, the Authority developed the Groundwater Resource Development Report (or Groundwater Report). The Groundwater Report has been prepared to assist the Authority in groundwater resource development planning. The report is intended to serve as a reference and resource document that will be periodically updated by staff.
The Authority’s 1997 Water Resources Plan forecasts long-range regional water demand and identifies water-supply goals and costs. Water supply recommendations developed in the Water Resources Plan are in part based upon groundwater production forecasts developed and summarized in the Authority's Groundwater Report (June 1997).
The Groundwater Report:
- provides an overview map of groundwater occurrence and availability within the Authority service area.
- identifies general opportunities and constraints to groundwater development and conjunctive use,
- identifies, summarizes, and evaluates existing, planned, and potential groundwater projects within the Authority service area,
- provides other information that will assist the Authority in developing groundwater implementation plans, and in evaluating and refining the Authority's Water Resources Plan groundwater supply projections and Strategic Plan goals.
