George Chamberlin's Money in the Morning
By: George Chamberlin
Next week is "Fix a Leak Week." Cities such as Coronado and Imperial Beach have proclaimed that consumers should use the event as an opportunity to check household fixtures and irrigation systems for wasteful leaks. My friends at Bill Howe Plumbing tell me that fixing a leaky faucet will save more than 20 gallons of water a day and just 10 drips per minute will equal 526 gallons of water a year. It is interesting how often in our roundtables at The Daily Transcript the subject of water comes up as a big problem facing the region's future, yet most people are just not concerned. They will be when it gets very expensive.
