Letter to the editor: Latest water bill is hard to swallow

We residents of San Diego get water bills every two months and, of course, Mayor Jerry Sanders has been on the television letting us know how important it is to conserve. I received a gold star on my current bill with a 73 percent reduction in usage from the same period last year.

Wow! I was pleased but a little skeptical. So I looked up in my files what I paid last year. I paid $113.46 last year but this year’s bill was $120.22 even with the 73 percent reduction in usage. To say that the system is gaming the public is very plain. As we continue to conserve, our bills continue to increase. I believe the politicians and our public utility employees are taking the rate payers to the cleaners.
