Short take: Storm expected tonight, with 2 more next week

The first of three storms expected during the next week should arrive tonight, but forecasters don’t think this batch will be as fierce or productive as the storms that pelted the region last month.

Rain could begin about 8 p.m. and last through tomorrow afternoon. Coastal areas should get about a quarter inch, and up to an inch could fall in the mountains. Thunderstorms are possible tomorrow.

“It’s one of those more benign storms,” said Ivory Small, science officer for the National Weather Service. “It probably won’t be a mudslide-producer. It will help us put water in the reservoirs and green up the hills.”

Sunday is forecast to be partly cloudy and dry. A second storm is predicted to arrive Monday, and then another could come Thursday or Friday.
