‘Go Green Book’ packs in the value
By: Jennifer Davies

If you are looking to buy more eco-friendly fare and save a few bucks in the process, you may want to check out the “Go Green Book.” Naomi Williamson, a former teacher and the publisher of “San Diego Natural Guide,” created the “Go Green Book” as a fundraising product for schools and nonprofit organizations. The book has more than 70 coupons worth as much as $1,000 in savings.

The coupon book only costs $5, and a portion of the proceeds go to support the San Diego Regional School Garden, Rady Children’s Hospital and Project Wildlife — not to mention the school selling the coupon book.

The coupon book is printed on recycled paper, uses soy-based inks and is delivered to schools in a hybrid vehicle.

Then there’s the savings. With a $5 coupon for Henry’s Farmers Market, the book pays for itself, says Williamson. There’s also a 20 percent-off coupon for Windmill Farms and a coupon for a free reusable bag at Whole Foods. Other coupons include free admission to Quail Botanical Garden and a $1-off coupon on smoothies at Juice It Up.

Williamson said she has printed 5,000 copies of the “Go Green Book.” Schools interested in selling the books as a way to raise funds can go to gogreenbook.org, call (760) 489-2757 or e-mail Williamson at info@gogreenbook.org.

If you’re interested in purchasing the coupon book, they are available at a number of retailers around the county, including Juice Kaboose in La Jolla and Boney’s Marketplace in Oceanside. Go to gogreenbook.org/where_to_buy.html to find a list of places where you can buy the book.
