Airport Waters Lawns During Storms Despite Mandatory Conservation
SAN DIEGO - Your lawn may be turning brown because of city water cutbacks, but the grass is green and lush at San Diego International Airport.
And a San Diego 6 viewer may have discovered why.
During a torrential downpour Thursday, Jo Patel spotted the Airport Authority's irrigation system
still running, after four days of rain. Through Thursday, nearly three inches of rain had fallen at Lindbergh Field.
The rain storms that drenched San Diego County were preceeded by appeals from Mayor Jerry Sanders and the San Diego Water Authority, asking residents to turn off their automatic irrigation systems to conserve water.
San Diego is under a level two drought alert and has had mandatory water rationing rules in effect for all water customers for nearly eight months.
