RIVERSIDE ---- Lake Skinner upgrades are a step closer to reality. The Riverside County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 Tuesday to commit $453,000 in revenues contributed by developers and distributed to Supervisor Jim Venable's 3rd District for the planned $2.5 million renovation of the county's Lake Skinner Park east of Temecula.

The county Regional Park and Open-Space District has proposed renovating the park's pool and building a water park for children, as well as improving the marina, boat launches, campground, playground, parking lot and entrance road. The park district is negotiating a 25-year lease of the property with Metropolitan Water District, the lake owner.

The work is part of a major campaign to renovate county parks. A total of $4 million in improvements was approved on Tuesday for Lake Skinner, Hurkey Creek Park near Idyllwild, Rancho Jurupa Park in Rubidoux and Bogart Park in Cherry Valley.
